Marketing & processing

SARRNET has made strides to establish prospects for markets for root crops and also processing and utilization to make products like flour, starch, glue, alcohol and livestock feed. This has shown that prospects to commercialise cassava and sweetpotato are high and quite promising. Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique have acquired machines for processing and are currently being evaluated by smallholder farmers private processors.
This activity has also started in other countries and ought to be pursued further for dissemination in all the region. Currently, opportunities for markets within the region and outside are showing positive marks. Processing for household utilisation is also lagging behind within the region. However, signs of prospects to utilise cassava and sweetpotato are showing positive results.
