Tiémoko Yo

Born in Côte d’Ivoire on 21 June 1958, Dr. Yo Tiémoko received his Master’s degree in 1986 from the University of Kassel, Germany. He later obtained a PhD degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Rennes France.

Dr. Yo Tiémoko began his scientific career in 1987 at IDESSA (Institut des Savanes à Bouaké) as a Researcher and later got promoted as Head of research program on animal feeding. Dr. Yo Tiémoko later (1994-1996) became the Director of the Department of animal production of the institute.

In 1996, he was promoted as Director of Research of IDESSA where he was coordinating research activities, scientific information and training of IDESSA. With his experience and achievements, he was called by the Ivorian Government to be a Member of the National Technical Secretariat to restructure the Agricultural Research system in Côte d’Ivoire, which conducted to the creation of the National Agronomic Research Centre of Côte d’Ivoire (CNRA). Dr YO Tiemoko was then called as the Scientific Director (1998-2001) and the Deputy Director General (2001-2004) of the new CNRA. Since 2005, he has been appointed as the Director General of CNRA. Through his leadership, CNRA have been able to produce remarkable scientific achievements. He managed to balance the scientific capacity of the institute with good Administrative and financial management.

CNRA is operating in the country through its 5 regional centres, 13 research stations and 2 central laboratories. CNRA is one of the rare institutions in Africa that has a private management system with a board comprising representatives of government as well as stakeholders of the private sector. As such, Dr. Yo makes sure that CNRA relationships are strongly established not just with the country’s political authorities, but also its extension agencies, farmer’s organisation, Agro-industries, as well as donors, CORAF, CGIAR and FARA, and sister organizations.

Dr Yo Tiémoko is currently member of the boards of WARDA, CORAF/WECARD, University of Abidjan, and presently the Vice-Chairman of FARA (Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa).
