Aquaculture assessments and value chain pilots for improving fish supply, employment and nutrition in DR Congo and Angola

Project Goal

The overall goal is to reinvigorate freshwater aquaculture in DR Congo and Angola, contributing to food and nutritional security and increased rural incomes. The project will assist fish farmers and value chain actors in both countries to improve the productivity of existing farms, develop profitable new fish value chains, and provide the country with experience in sustainable aquaculture development that can be scaled up.

Expected outcomes
  • Introduction of environmentally sustainable aquaculture technologies.
  • Improved access to quality fish seed from a rejuvenated hatchery and nursery system with enhanced fish breeding capacity and improved fish stocks.
  • Development of fish feeds and pond feeding systems.
  • New opportunities for employment created for women, men and youth.

In Angola – Malanje, North Kwanza, and Bengo provinces. In DR Congo – South Kivu and Kinshasa provinces.
