Crops to End Hunger (CtEH) under the CGIAR Excellence in Breeding Platform (EiB)

Goal

Enhanced performance of IITA’s crop breeding programs through implementation of crop-specific and cross-cutting (institutional) improvement plans.

Objective

To recruit and support the work of three IRS:

  • Head of Farm Management,
  • Head of Breeding, and
  • Product Manager

Expected results

    • Head of breeding recruited and active
    • Breeding structure reorganized
    • Clearly defined breeding strategies based on demand-driven product designs
    • Product manager recruited and active
    • Improved product design linked to market acceptance of new product releases
    • Optimal quantity and quality of products delivered by the pipelines of the crop breeding programs
    • Head of research farms recruited and active
    • Farm operation structure reorganized
    • Soil management plans for three key stations (Ibadan, Kano and Ikenne) defined
    • Irrigation management plan for three key stations (Ibadan, Kano and Ikenne) defined
Improved quality of farm management at all sites
  • Improved level of mechanization of operations on the research farms
