Stress Tolerant Maize for Africa (STMA)

The STMA project aims to develop improved multiple stress tolerant varieties that effectively address emerging and future production challenges, while increasing genetic gains and scaling up and scaling out products developed and knowledge gained. STMA aims to facilitate the production and use of 54,000 MT of multiple stress tolerant maize seed in 8 target countries in SSA (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and Mali), covering approximately 2.2 million ha, benefiting more than 5 million households or well over 49 million people in the target countries by 2019.


To alleviate hunger and increase food and income security of resource-poor farm families in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) through development and dissemination of improved multiple stress tolerant and well-adapted maize varieties.
