Yams for food and wealth in Africa: Tools for rapid propagation and accelerating breeding

Goals

Excellent varieties that have been developed by this research spread by dissemination program.

The new propagation method spread of technology to national research institutes in Africa, it can used for the production of seed tuber in each country.

 

Yam vine cutting propagation have been developed by Japanese researchers in IITA. It can be expected that mass propagation system using tissue culture technique and vine cutting propagation combine as new system of propagation method.

Expected results

Interspecific hybridization between Dioscorea species.
