Dr. Rhys Manners, a British citizen, is an agricultural engineer and zoologist from the UK. Dr. Manners obtained his PhD in Agro-Environmental Technology from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain (2018). His PhD research focused upon quantifying the impacts of socio-economic factors in driving deforestation in Latin America, specifically concentrating upon the role of global dietary changes. Before joining IITA, he worked as an analyst at UPM working on two European Union funded research projects: ROBIN and PROTEIN2FOOD. As part of his role, he contributed to demonstrating how biodiversity could be used to mitigate climate change and outlining potential policy strategies for transitioning dietary consumption patterns towards more sustainable futures. Rhys has an MSc in Environmental Management from IE University (Spain), and a BSc in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen (UK). He is based in Kigali, Rwanda, as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Data Scientist for the CIALCA project, which combines collaborative platforms with integrated systems research, to reduce poverty and ensure ecosystem integrity.
