Dr. Adebayo B. Abass focuses on post-harvest technologies, commodity value chain development, capacity building, and increasing African food security. His recent work has significantly contributed to the understanding of cassava processing, exploring innovative methods to enhance the value-addition, storability, safety, quality, nutritional, and functional properties of cassava and maize, and their derivative products. His research encompasses food product development, postharvest management and food loss prevention, energy-efficient drying techniques and the impact of improved agricultural practices on food security. He was a member of the IITA research scientists who developed the high-quality cassava flour (HQCF) technology in the 1990s. The technology has grown into multi-billion-dollar investments in Africa, China and other parts of the world. Dr Abass works with a large team of partners and experts under the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Program of the African Development Bank, transferring climate-smart and innovative agricultural technologies to farmers, processors and the private sector to enable African governments to achieve food sovereignty. He provides technical assistance in modern agricultural technologies to the staff of ministries of agriculture, national research and extension institutions, and the private sector in more than twenty African countries and supports national food standards development. His collaborations with several African universities and advanced research institutions underscore his influence in agricultural research and training of MSc and PhD students across Africa.
