Delphine Amah is the Regional Breeding Manager for plantain/banana improvement in West/Central Africa. She coordinates the plantain breeding program based in Ibadan (and Onne) and related activities within the region. Prior to this role, she was a Research Associate in IITA-Cameroon (2009-2012) where she also served as a Research Assistant (2002-2009) for the Starchy Crops Improvement Program for hybrid development, evaluation, and dissemination. She has several years of experience in plantain/banana germplasm characterization, hybrid evaluation, propagation, and distribution. She is also highly skilled in plant tissue culture techniques for vegetatively propagated crops and has contributed to the establishment of several plant tissue culture laboratories for research and plant propagation all over Africa. Currently, she is working on the use of in vitro techniques to accelerate hybrid development in banana. She holds a BSc (1997) and an MSc (2001) in Microbiology from the University of Buea Cameroon and is currently pursuing a PhD in plant breeding at the University of the Free State in South Africa.
