Simon Imoro, a Ghanaian, is the Breeding Data Manager in IITA. He is a specialist in developing and maintaining databases, providing training and support to scientists and technicians in the use of digital tools and information systems for the management of research data.
Simon has over 10 years of experience in collaborating with Private, International and Local organizations in managing Information Systems, Agriculture and Health data. He obtained his BSc. in Computer Science and MSc. in Information Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
Before joining IITA in 2021, he taught at IPMC College of Technology in Kumasi, as a Software/Database Instructor (2009-2014). He then worked for the International Potato Centre (CIP) as the Data Manager/IT Specialist for the Sweetpotato Breeding Program in Ghana (2015-2020). He curated and managed breeding data in SPbase, developed mobile-based data collection tools, and supervised sweetpotato related surveys in Ghana, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso (2016-2020). Simon was also consulted by the Reputed Agriculture for Development (RA4D), and the Centre for Health Systems Strengthening (CfHSS) in Ghana, on data management.
