With the latest technology and equipment, IITA is committed to research-for-development activities that bring solutions to farmers, rural communities, and the people of sub-Saharan Africa. Biodiversity conservation

IITA has been taking care of its rich biodiversity since the institute was established in the late 60s, starting with the secondary rainforest in its headquarters in Ibadan with many indigenous trees. Read more

IITA has dedicated bioinformatics capacity of highly experienced personnel and installation of suitable computer hardware (including servers with large storage and RAM as well as workstations). In addition, we also partner with Boyce Thompson Institute of Cornell University to generate different crop databases.

Biotechnology and Molecular Biology

The Molecular Genetics Lab, based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, conducts research primarily on banana. In Nigeria, the Bioscience Center encompasses a number of different laboratories that deal with a variety of research areas. Most of IITA’s molecular and biotechnology work undertaken outside of West Africa takes place in Nairobi, Kenya, at the Biosciences East and Central Africa (BecA) Hub at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). The Climate Change Center in Benin serves as a center of excellence for research in climate change and biocontrol. Food Utilization and Nutritional Laboratory
