Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe

Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe serves as the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He graduated with a BSc. (Hons) in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1983, received an MSc in Food Technology from the University of Ibadan in 1985 and earned a Ph.D degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nigeria in 1997.
A professional Food Scientist, Professor Iwe is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) and a Fellow of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST/FIAFoST). He is also a Professional Member and an internationally Certified Food Scientist (CFS) of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), Chicago, USA. He belongs to several professional bodies, including the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), USA; the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST); the West African Association of Food Science and Technology (WAAFoST); the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST); the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN); and the Nigeria Soybean Association (NSA).
In the last forty (40) years, he has produced over a dozen MSc. and Ph.D students with whom, and in collaboration with other colleagues he has attracted some research grants. His academic career spans positions held in Universities in Nigeria including University of Jos, Makurdi Campus; University of Agriculture, Makurdi; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; Abia State University, Uturu; and University of Uyo, Uyo.
Professor Iwe served as the Editor-in-Chief of the popular Nigeria Food Journal. He has maintained a long-standing interest, from the earliest stages of his professional career, in the emergence of an entrepreneurial culture in the management of Universities. In pursuit of this interest, he has served in various administrative and management positions in the Universities in which he has worked. He has at different times, been Head of Department, Dean of Faculty within which time he established the Hotel Management and Tourism program through the advice of the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a former Vice President of Nigeria, Dean of Student Affairs and full-term Deputy Vice-Chancellor. He has also served as a member of the Board of a Federal parastatal, and Presidential Visitation Panel. He is the immediate past President of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology, National Chairman of the Scripture Union, Nigeria. and Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
