Driving agroecological transitions in the humid tropics of Central and Eastern Africa through traNsdisciplinary Agroecology Living Labs (CANALLS)
Project goal
The goal of CANALLS is to drive agroecological transitions in the humid tropics of Central and Eastern Africa through multi-actor Agroecology Living Labs, benefiting over 20,000 farmers and fostering collaboration, policy dialogue, and the development of practical tools for sustainable agroecological practices.
Expected Results
- EU and Africa jointly tackle climate change and environmental challenges, contributing to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring food and nutrition security and decent livelihoods.
- Identification of optimal combinations of agroecological practices that enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation in different African farming systems while ensuring business financial viability.
- Quantification and assessment of socio-economic and environmental performance of agroecological strategies, supporting sustainable agriculture, small farmers, and market access.
- Increased adoption and implementation of agroecological practices by farmers, supporting rural communities, and ensuring farm resilience and viability.
- Strengthened transdisciplinary research and integrated scientific support for EU policies and priorities (EU strategy for Africa, Green Deal objectives, etc.).
