Dr Subramaniam Gopalakrishnan obtained his Ph.D. (Biology) from University College London (UCL), London, United Kingdom and three years Postdoc at Japan International Research Institute for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), Tsukuba, Japan. Presently, he is working as Senior Soil Microbiologist at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Before joining IITA, he was associated with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, Telangana, India as a Microbiologist for more than 14 years. His area of interest includes plant-microbial interactions, beneficial microbes, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), biological control of insect pests and pathogens and bioinputs in crops including legumes, cereals and root and tuber crops (RTBs). Gopal is working closely with bioinputs manufacturing industries and demonstrating their products under on-station and on-farm conditions in Tanzania and Nigeria. He published more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers in high impact factor journals in beneficial microbes, PGPR and plant-microbial interactions.
