Postdoctoral fellow in Plant Pathology
Gloria Valentine Nakato, a Ugandan, is a Postdoctoral fellow in Plant Pathology based at IITA, Kampala, Uganda. Valentine holds a PhD in Plant Pathology from University of Pretoria, Pretoria, South Africa since August 2018, MSc in Crop Science from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda since January 2009 and BSc Agriculture (with specialization in Crop Science) from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda since November 2003.
Prior to this appointment, Valentine has worked with IITA at various capacities including Research Associate (2008 – 2020) and Research Assistant (2003 – 2007). She has over 15 years’ experience working on banana pathogens and their vectors within East and Central Africa with IITA. She has developed an extensive research career with experience around detection and molecular characterization of banana pathogens, plant-pathogen interactions, host plant resistance, field surveillance, biological and cultural management of banana pathogens.
